A Brooklyn man faces murder charges for allegedly stabbing a Queens man to death during an apparent romantic rendezvous gone wrong, police sources said.
According to police sources, 36-year-old Bretford Brewer of Brooklyn was charged on Wednesday with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the brutal slaying of 36-year-old Carlos Penzo on Aug. 1.
Penzo was found covered in blood and covered in stab wounds across his body inside a bathtub at his ritzy Long Island City apartment complex, located at 43-25 Hunter St., the Hayden building.
Sources familiar with the investigation report that the two men met on social media and intended to hook up for the night. However, something triggered a verbal dispute between the two men that ended with Brewer allegedly attacking Penzo with a knife, causing his death.
According to a report from the New York Daily News, the suspect was seen on the rooftop of the 51-story high-rise nude, attempting to destroy security cameras with a fire extinguisher.
Brewer’s arraignment at Queens Criminal Court is pending as of Thursday.
The Hayden’s website notes that the complex features its own basketball court, gym, lawn with a movie screen, and a parking garage. Current price listings begin at over $6,600 a month.
