August just started, but as true New Yorkers we’re already planning our fall wardrobes. H&M worked with Wardrobe NYC, the minimalist luxury brand founded by stylist Christine Centenera, for a collaboration. The 29-piece collection, rooted in Wardrobe NYC’s archives, includes tailored blazers, contoured denim jackets, and pleated trousers — all in the oversize style of the brand. The collection is very roomy, with exaggerated proportions that go beyond your average slouch. Nevertheless, after testing the collection earlier this month across four different body types, we all agreed we’d buy at least one piece.

What did you try? The denim hourglass jacket and oversize black bomber jacket.
How did it fit? Both ran very oversize. My normal size is medium, and they sent both styles in small — and they were still roomy.
Would you buy it? Yes. The denim jacket. I’d pass on the bomber jacket, which was too oversize for me — comically so.

What did you try? The shoulder-pad poplin shirt, tailored wool pants, and cropped hoodie.
How did it fit? The boxy blue button-down was one of my favorite pieces except for the (thankfully) removable shoulder pads. I got a medium and could’ve sized down and still had a good fit. The hoodie was an unexpected addition; I usually wear hoodies to the gym or to run errands, but I like the idea of a dressier hoodie, and the material was so luxurious. Unfortunately, the trousers in a size large didn’t fit at the waist, but the shape was great otherwise; they weren’t too long.
Would you buy it? Yes, all three pieces. I would size up in the pants, though.

What did you try? The oversize down bomber jacket, leather sock boots, and the sheer sleeveless bodysuit.
How did it fit? I loved the fit of all three. The oversize down bomber was the standout for me. The proportions are intentionally exaggerated, almost to the point of feeling oversize even by oversize standards. I think it works best styled with slimmer bottoms to balance the volume, but I really like silhouettes like this. It’s a statement piece that feels really cool without doing too much. I also really liked the sheer bodysuit. The muscle-tank-inspired shape gives it a strong, flattering silhouette, and while it’s definitely sheer, that’s clearly part of the design. It’s something I could style for work or going out on the weekends. I would definitely get a lot of usage out of this piece. The sandal heels were incredibly comfortable and feel super-versatile. I especially like them as a transitional shoe for spring and fall, when it’s too cool for a typical sandal but not quite boot weather. They’re probably the piece I’d reach for most.
Would you buy it? Yes. The bodysuit and the sandals. I’d pass on the bomber but would snag if it was on sale.

What did you try? The nylon track pants, cropped wool bomber, and denim hourglass jacket.
How did it fit? As most people have mentioned here, every piece I tried was excessively oversize, but I loved it. Because I have a wardrobe full of extra-large jackets and pants that I’m borderline swimming in, oversize is chic when worn right. The nylon pants are so big that you could even fit another pair of pants under them (I saw Teyana Taylor layer denim under them and that’s how I plan on wearing them next). The drawstring helps cinch the waist, though. I wore a large and could size it down, but I loved the fit. The jackets were both a medium, my normal size in outerwear. I had to clasp the denim jacket in the back just so it would hug my waist a bit more, but it has a natural hourglass shape that I love because it effortlessly contours my body. The cropped bomber is a classic bomber jacket that can be dressed up or dressed down, but what I appreciated was the structure of it.
Would you buy it? Yes. All three. I’d buy more of the pieces in the collection, too.
