NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Say goodbye to summer nights; sunset will soon start creeping closer to 4:30 p.m.
Next Monday will be the last 8 p.m. sunset of the year, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. By Tuesday, sunset will inch up to 7:58 p.m., then reach 7:28 p.m. by September 1.

It only gets worse from there – sunset is around 6:30 p.m. by October 1. Then, daylight saving time will end in November, setting clocks back by an hour. Mid-December will bring nightfall by 4:30 p.m., and the late-night summer sun won’t return until May 2027.
It’s a devastating blow to New Yorkers, who expressed their discontent on social media.
“My office is looking into how to stop this,” said Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal.
The good news is that September will bring relief from the heat. Starting Sept. 2, temperatures will consistently sit under 80 degrees, with a few hot and sunny days projected on the weekends.
