Piece by piece, crews are now taking apart what Wednesday’s deadly fire in the Bronx left behind.
Friday evening, workers boarded-up windows and knocked down loose, unstable debris at the burned-out building at East 209th Street and Parkside Place in Norwood.
According to the FDNY, a second body was recovered Friday after the building first had to be shored up so crews could enter safely.
One person remains hospitalized, 14 other people were injured and dozens remain displaced, officials said.
“It’s horrible feeling helpless, and you feel like nobody can help because, you know, you feel stranded in life,” neighbor Wendy Rameriez said.
For Tashaila Parks, the wait is different. She last spoke with her aunt on Tuesday, and fears her aunt may be one of the people killed.
“We need to know,” Parks said. “I just want prayer for my family, and I just want for this nightmare to be over.”
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body recovered.
Elise Falcon is among those who still cannot go home. She said she was arrested on Wednesday after trying to get back inside the burning building to save her pets.
Now, by choice, she’s sleeping in her car with her husband, son and animals due to rules from the Red Cross regarding pets.
“It’s very cramped in there, but my dogs are my life. I would do anything for them,” Falcon said.
The medical examiner has not released the names of either victim.
The investigation into what caused the fire continues, according to officials.
