There is an area of roadway in the Village of Hamburg that is puzzling residents and those who drive it often. Why is the road always wet on South Park Avenue near the traffic circle by Clark Street? It has been getting worse and the Erie County Water Authority is also asking some questions.

This past summer, and most of the fall, were very dry. Drought conditions swept across the state and a temporary burn ban had to be implemented. That being said, you have to wonder why this stretch of busy road is always wet and always in the same area.

Major Road Repair Needed In Hamburg?

I drive this area everyday and have been wondering what is going on. My fears are that it might be a big problem to fix and cause traffic issues in the process and that if it is not fixed by the frigid weather it could be a slippery mess.

A Larger Issue Than We Think?

There is also a puddle the is always formed in the entrance to the Tops store just north about 100 yards of this location and I would conclude that the two issues are related.

I spoke briefly with an employee of the Erie County Water Authority who was observing the area this week. He seemed to think it was related to some sort of leak that was “a considerable distance away” from the water that is on the road.

While we wait to see what happens next, just be aware that the road is wet but drive-able and there are no significant traffic delays…yet.
