Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams is showing off his toned physique.
Adams, 65, took to X on Friday, August 7, posting a shirtless photo in which the smiling politician posed in his kitchen, holding a cucumber in one hand and a red bell pepper in the other.
“65 years old and I’ve never been in better shape!” Adams wrote alongside the pic.
As for what prompted Adams to focus on his health later in life, he said a battle with diabetes served as a wake-up call in the lead-up to his bid for mayor.
“A few years before I became Mayor, diabetes nearly cost me my eyesight. I changed my diet, changed my lifestyle, and changed my life,” he added.
Now, Adams says he and his son, Jordan, have a competition to see “who will be in the best shape of our lives” by their “Virgo birthdays.”
“I’m going to win, Jordan. 😂,” Adams quipped before revealing that his secret weapon has been “veggies.”
“This photo isn’t about showing off (okay, maybe a little bit of that too). It’s about showing what’s possible when you take control of your health,” he said before concluding the post with a healthy reminder: “Eat your vegetables!”

The post was met with a mixed response in the comments section, with some social media users poking fun at Adams’ pose and his choice of vegetables in the photo.
“why hold a cucumber like that out of all the veggies,” one user wrote, with another commenting, “To keep it only positive here, I’m going to say you can clearly bench press 4x the current mayor. Still, 86 the cucumber from your topless photos.”
Another, meanwhile, accused Adams of using AI to create the shot, writing, “Dude thats Ai lol your face looks incredibly super imposed.”
Adams served as New York City’s mayor from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2025, completing one four-year term. His final years in office were overshadowed by his 2024 federal indictment on corruption charges; he pleaded not guilty and remained mayor while fighting the case. The federal charges were ultimately dismissed in 2025.
His tenure ended after he lost the 2025 Democratic primary to Zohran Mamdani and then failed to mount a successful independent reelection bid. Mamdani won the general election and was sworn in as the city’s 112th mayor on January 1, 2026.
