HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. — New York State Police are investigating a double fatal boating incident on Kyser Lake in Herkimer County Sunday afternoon.
State Police responded around 2:40 p.m. to Kyser Lake in Manheim. State Police determined that two boats were docked next to one another when a 78-year-old man went into the water and began experiencing a medical emergency.
That’s when the boat’s operator went into the water to help him and the boat, unoccupied, started to drift away. According to State Police, a 65-year-old man then went in the unoccupied boat and attempted to maneuver it toward the two people in the water. The boat hit a rock ledge and ejected the man from the boat. The boat’s propeller then hit the 65-year-old man.
Both men sustained fatal injuries were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
