NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Evictions are paused across New York City on Monday as temperatures soar over 90 degrees.

Because of these extreme weather conditions, city marshals will not carry out any evictions scheduled for Monday, the Department of Investigations announced.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory through 7 p.m. for much of the tri-state area as temperatures will feel like the upper-90s. The NWS is also warning of severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening. The conditions will increase New Yorkers’ risk of heat-related illness.

Evictions are commonly paused city-wide to “protect public health, safety, and general welfare.” The city has called eviction moratoria before during the COVID-19 pandemic, the recent Knicks parade and another dangerously hot day in July.
