A slew of designers will make over a capacious 1850s dwelling with a mansard roof on Monroe Place for the semi-annual Brooklyn Heights Association benefit.

by Talents in Brooklyn and beyond will soon set to work transforming the mid-19th century Greek Revival-Italianate at 1 Monroe Place in Brooklyn Heights for the semi-annual Brooklyn Heights Association Designer Showhouse. The benefit showcases design in Brooklyn while also raising funds for the longtime neighborhood group to continue its community advocacy work.
Familiar names in Brooklyn include Stollar Fearins Welch, whose “livable luxury” blends Brooklyn and Southern sensibilities, and Rachael Rosenblum, whose eye for reworking vintage upholstered pieces has blossomed into a full-scale interior design business. The complete cadre of 17 designers set to make over 1 Monroe Place includes Brian Cash Work, Emily Eng Interiors, Field Form, Hallie Goodman, Hannah Hemmerly Studio, Innerform, Isy’s Interiors, Llewellyn Chupin, Max Aboody, Paige Blodgett Interiors, Silverwing Interiors, SRF Interiors, Studio Olivine, Sugarhouse Design & Architecture, and Unionworks, the Brooklyn Heights Association announced today.

The 1850s dwelling at the corner of Clark Street has no lack of space to adorn. Tall at five stories and wide at 25 feet, it got a full exterior restoration and an interior gut reno after years behind a construction fence. The mansard roof, which was demolished almost 20 years ago, was restored and the interior is now configured as a four-story unit over two garden-level studio apartments.
Launched in 2017, the showhouse has been held, with some pandemic delays, every other year. In previous editions, designers revamped the interiors of an 1860s brownstone, an 1820s wood frame, an 1830s townhouse, and an 1840s brick row house.
The work of this year’s designers will be shown off at an opening night party on September 30 before public hours begin on October 2 and run through November 1. Sarah Boyd of Sarah Boyd Co. is the design producer for the showhouse this year, and event founders Ellen Hamilton and Erika Belsey Worth are co-chairs emeritus.
