North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has officially announced her run for New York governor. The Republican from Saratoga County published her first campaign video earlier this morning.

“I am running for Governor to bring a new generation of leadership to Albany to make New York affordable and safe for families all across our great state,” Stefanik said in a statement.

Stefanik described Hochul as the “Worst Governor in America.” “Our campaign will unify Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to Fire Kathy Hochul once and for all to Save New York.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for Gov. Kathy Hochul called Stefanik a sellout and accused her of gutting healthcare and cutting funding for schools and hospitals.

“While Stefanik puts Trump first and New York last, Governor Hochul is lowering costs, cutting middle-class taxes, and fighting for the New Yorkers Stefanik abandoned,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Stefanik may not be the only Republican running to replace Hochul. Earlier this week, recently reelected Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman told the New York Post he’ll meet with GOP leaders to discuss his own gubernatorial run. The Republican primary is June 23.

Meanwhile, Gov. Hochul is facing a Democratic primary challenge from her lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado.
