Schoharie, NY (WRGB) — A Schoharie man is behind bars after New York State Police say he violently attacked an elderly person and stole from them. CBS6 has discovered the victim was asleep at the time of the attack.
Massimo Palleschi was arrested on August 7. Troopers had responded to a home on Church Street in Schoharie early that morning for reports of a robbery. They say Palleschi had carried out the attack and robbery the evening before. Troopers later reportedly found the victim’s wallet and an undisclosed controlled substance at Palleschi’s home.
Court documents obtained by CBS6 show the victim was sleeping in a chair on the porch of their apartment building at the time of the attack, and did not know the identity of the attacker at the time. A witness told police Palleschi lived at the same building. That witness said they saw Palleschi push the victim’s chair over before hitting them several times in the head.
According to court filings, an Extreme Risk Protection Order was granted against Palleschi on Monday.
Palleschi, 51, is held at the Schoharie County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash/$10,000 bond, or a $20,000 partially secured bond.
