SANTI (8 years old)
Santi’s journey hasn’t been easy, but her resilience is truly inspiring. She was originally found as a stray on a beach and brought to NYC ACC. After being adopted, she was heartbreakingly returned a year later and ended up back in the shelter.
Staff feared Santi might have degenerative myelopathy (“doggie ALS”) and could require hospice care. She was set to be medically euthanized until actor Justin Theroux stepped in and pleaded for people to help find a foster as Pawsome Squad was willing to rescue her and pay for her medical bills. Within an hour before being put down, a foster was found and Santi was saved.
After being saved, a neurology consultation at AMC New York revealed much better news. Santi does not have degenerative myelopathy. Instead, she has a mid-back spinal issue that affects her hind limb coordination, along with osteoarthritis in her ankles and elbows.
Santi is an amazing girl who didn’t let the challenges she has faced in her short lifetime lose faith in humanity and continue to show love for all those she meets.
CALI (1 1/2 years old)
Cali is super social with dogs, getting along great with her foster siblings and other pups.
She loves being in the middle of the fun, always curious, always ready to explore, and always down for a snuggle.
Found wandering alone in a cemetery, little Cali, just 6 months old, started her journey in fear and uncertainty. But brave girl is a determined survivor with a heart full of love.
Within just a few days of care and kindness, Cali bloomed into the sweetest, most affectionate pup. She’s treat-motivated, very social, loves to play her heart out, and has puppy energy for days! She’s already learned her commands and is always eager to please.
KEIKO (4 years old)
Keiko was found in a empty apartment unit and brought in with four other dogs by animal control to the NYACC shelter.
We saved Keiko from the NYACC’s euthanasia list in April along with two of her other siblings, whom has since been adopted.
Outside the shelter, Keiko is a social pup with humans and other dogs, she is eager to learn and loves her stuff toys. She is also happy spending time training with her foster and enjoys outdoor activities with him.
We are hoping someone comes forward to give this angel a loving home and complete our mission of getting all the siblings adopted!
LUCY (2 years old)
Lucy was taken in as puppy, but came to us as an owner surrender back February 2026, due to the family having a child.
Many dogs like Lucy are surrendered each year with a chance to be part of the family.
This sweet girl loves to go to the beach, long hikes in the parks, play fetch and is very social with people and dogs.
COOPER (2 years old)
Cooper had a family that unfortunately was evicted and had to surrender him on Dec. 7, 2025 to the NYACC shelter due to the fact dogs are not allowed in a homeless shelter.
We saved Cooper on Jan. 30, 2026 from the NYACC’s euthanasia list.
Cooper was a scared pup in the shelter but when we got him out of the shelter, he was so happy and thankful!
A very social pup, Cooper also loves walks, play, eager to learn new things, and laying on the couch with you!
