An NYPD detective was indicted Tuesday for allegedly beating a handcuffed prisoner inside a Brooklyn stationhouse, leaving the man with an orbital fracture, prosecutors said.
According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, 51-year-old Raymond Ng, who was assigned to the 76th Precinct detective squad, allegedly attacked a 49-year-old man who had no prior convictions. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
Court records show the man had been brought to the stationhouse on assault charges on Jan. 19, though those charges were later dismissed. While the handcuffed man was being placed into a holding cell, he allegedly attempted to spit at Ng after being shoved inside.
Ng allegedly then entered the cell and pushed the man against the cell bars before repeatedly punching him while holding a padlock, prosecutors said. The attack only ended when fellow officers pulled Ng away from the detainee.
The victim suffered an orbital fracture, facial abrasion, bleeding and bruising, as well as pain in his head and right shoulder. He was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
“We expect our police personnel to carry themselves with integrity and respect for others, even when provoked. This defendant allegedly failed that duty and violently attacked a handcuffed and helpless prisoner inside a police precinct. This is unacceptable and criminal conduct for which we will now seek to hold him accountable,” Gonzalez said.
Ng has since been demoted from detective to police officer and reassigned to Police Service Area Viper, where he is tasked with monitoring surveillance video, according to prosecutors.
He was charged with second- and third-degree assault, official misconduct, second- and third-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Ng was released without bail and ordered to return to court on Oct. 28, 2026.
