Hennepin County Attorney Primary: Frazier, Folk Receive Most Votes To Advance

Voters in Hennepin County trimmed a field of five county attorney candidates down to two for Tuesday’s primary election.

The top vote-getters were Cedrick Frazier of New Hope, who received the DFL endorsement and is currently state representative; and Anders Folk, a former U.S. Attorney who also received significant DFL support.

With Frazier’s latest term in the Minnesota House of Representatives coming to an end, he did not run for re-election and instead ran for the attorney’s seat.

Others in the races were veteran Hennepin County prosecutor Diane Krenz, Ramsey County assistant attorney Hao Nguyen and local attorney Matt Pelikan.

The results are as follows:

Frazier 36.0 percent, 87,447 total votes
Folk 22.9 percent 55,610 total votes
Krenz 19.0 percent 46,150 total votes
Nguyen 15.0 percent 36,424 total votes
Pelikan 7.3 percent 17,648 total votes

Frazier, a labor attorney, previously worked as a Hennepin County public defender and served on the New Hope City Council. Folk previously worked as a prosecutor in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

Each will vie to succeed Mary Moriarty, who announced last year she would not run for a second term.

During a recent forum, many of the candidates indicated they would seek a different direction with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
