Staten Island faces a chance of thunderstorms Wednesday night into Thursday as two separate weather systems move through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service says the first storm system will come into the area Wednesday night and weaken as it pushes eastward into Thursday morning.
While severe weather is not anticipated, forecasters note that atmospheric conditions cannot completely rule out strong wind gusts from any storms that develop. Any storms that do occur are expected to move quickly enough to prevent flash flooding concerns.
A second weather system is expected to follow Thursday. The National Weather Service notes that current forecasts show isolated thunder with strong wind gusts are possible.
Looking ahead to the extended forecast for New York City and Staten Island, conditions are expected to be generally quiet Friday and Saturday.
A more significant weather system is forecast to approach Sunday, with rain becoming increasingly likely Sunday night into early Monday morning.
The system could bring heavy rainfall and forecasters say trends in flooding potential will need to be monitored. Confidence regarding potential severe weather and flooding impacts from that system remains low at this time.
