A 10-year-old girl suffered a severe hand injury when she ignited an M-80 firework with the help of a city Parks Department worker in Staten Island police said Wednesday.
The girl was rushed by medics to Staten Island University Hospital North, with more than one finger on her left hand badly damaged and possibly dismembered, police said.
The Parks worker, Joshua Moe, 24, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment, police said.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gen. Douglas MacArthur Park, near Dongan Hills Ave. and Jefferson St. in Dongan Hills.
Police said the girl found the firework while playing in the park and then asked Moe to help her light it, which he allegedly did using his lighter.
Responding officers used a tourniquet oner the girl’s hand before medics took her to the hospital.
