The tech startup made a commitment to New York State that it would hire nearly 600 people over the next five years with the support of up to $6 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits from Empire State Development (ESD).
Cofounder Ryan Urban said they’ve already hired thirty people and plan to fill forty-four more positions by the end of the year. Urban told PIX11 News, “We’re building a culture for this building; we’re building a culture for Brooklyn.”
Cofounder Maricor Resente told PIX11 News there are “sales jobs, machine learning, AI Product, all sorts of tech roles.” She added, “The main thing we’re looking for is anyone that has grit, anybody that’s got hustle, anybody that wants to work and is hungry to learn.”
Resente said the goal is to “make New York and North Brooklyn, the next Silicon Valley, the next tech hub. The way Google and Facebook and all of those guys have in San Francisco; we’ll do the same here.”
The 30,000 square foot space on Kent Avenue is full of color and art.
Brooklyn artist Alex Smetsky worked on a number of pieces within the office, including a mosaic reception area. Smetsky told PIX11 News, “It becomes almost like an immersive experience, but it’s still a workplace. It’s a way to be a kid, even in your adulthood; it’s pretty cool.”
