Andrew and Matt Como, with a family history in Flushing, perform as The Como Brothers. QG: How long have you been songwriting? What got you into music in the first place?
The first song we can remember hearing was The Beatles rendition of “Twist & Shout” in the back of our parents’ 1993 Plymouth Voyager Minivan at our Long Island, NY home. Our dad always played The Beatles in the car and at home (a lot of Billy Joel too). At the time, we thought The Beatles were current artists on the radio. Our dad would also play original music that our Uncle Lawrence wrote in the late 1970s and early 1980s. My dad was the drummer in their band called The Words. We thought The Words were global superstars. We knew and loved all of their songs.
Our dad grew up in Flushing, Queens with his five brothers on Hollis Court Boulevard down the street from the Blue Bay Diner. They were the sons of Jack and Helen Como who lived on Hollis Court for 60 years. Jack Como came to the United States from Sicily in 1929. Our grandparents were heavily involved in Italian American associations & advocacy groups. They all attended St. Kevin’s Church. My dad’s late oldest brother Vinny Como saw The Beatles perform live at Shea Stadium in 1965. He was the first brother to learn guitar & sing. Vinny’s love of The Beatles & music inspired the rest of his brothers to pick up instruments and sing.
Our dad, Uncle Lawrence, and all of my dad’s other four brothers would jam together at every family party when we were growing up (which we had often). We wanted to play with them in the worst way. They were our heroes and inspired us to learn instruments & sing. We formed our own cover bands at the end of middle school/early high school.
When we were 14/15 years old in early high school…our dad started a Beatles tribute band with us and our Uncle Lawrence. Dad played Ringo, Uncle Lawrence played Paul, Andrew played George, and Matt played John. At a young age, we immersed ourselves in the entire Beatles catalog playing live out at bars, restaurants, town festivals, etc. for two to three nights a week for six years.
Learning The Beatles catalog gave us a deep appreciation for songwriting, chord structures, melodies, performing, and harmony. This led us to want to write our own music. We started doing this while we were in the tribute band. The tribute band stopped eventually, and then we became obsessed with writing, recording, and releasing our own original songs. Thus, the “Como Brothers” were born. We never looked back. We’ve now been grinding to make a name for ourselves for about 16 years. It’s been a slow burn; we’ve had our music placed in TV Shows such as General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and other soap operas.
For 15 years, we relentlessly pushed our own original music on social media, got our music onto local/college radios, and played live gigs more and more. We played anything that we could; colleges, bars, restaurants, corporate events, weddings, & even singing telegrams. Every year we’d play more & more gigs. Two years ago we played 225 gigs, and last year we hit our high with 256 gigs in a calendar year.
The tribute band had stopped, but the support of our dad & Uncle Lawrence grew stronger. Dad came to every show helping us lug equipment & even writing down every song that we played in his notebook. He still comes to almost every show. Uncle Lawrence would be there most of the time as well cheering us on. He would dissect our live shows in the most constructive way possible; telling us how our show was in terms of performance, banter, song selection, flow of the set, etc. He would tell us which original songs of ours he thought were hits. He believed that our song “I Don’t Like You” was a hit. Matt wrote that song about a girl he didn’t like. Andrew helped him finish it (Andrew didn’t like the girl either). We just recently released our song “I Don’t Like You” within the past year. You can stream it and find it everywhere now.
In 2022, we found out our Uncle Lawrence had lung cancer. While going through treatments that would take everything out of him, he would still show up to our gigs. Sometimes driving over two hours just to see us play. We would go over to his house with dad to have dinner and jam Beatles songs, The Words songs, and our own original songs while holding onto hope that he would beat the cancer.
We got the call that Uncle Lawrence was in the hospital and that it didn’t look good this time. We rushed into Manhattan with our dad to see him. We held his hand and told him that we loved him one last time. On July 28th, 2023, we got the call that we lost our biggest musical hero other than our dad; our Uncle Lawrence. He passed away after a brave battle with lung cancer at the young age of 62. We were devastated. Since then, we often ask ourselves “what would Uncle Lawrence think or do” when we’re writing songs or playing live.
We had never tried to consistently post covers online until late November 2025. We started to post a few live Beatles covers from our studio. In mid-December, our video of “If I Fell” gained a lot of traction garnering almost 700,000 views across all social media platforms. Every Beatles song we posted after that did very well. Then on January 3rd we posted the live cover video that eventually won us the American Songwriter Covered Promotion; our rendition of “I Feel Fine.” It got over 1.5 million views in a single day. Jerry Seinfeld liked the video and followed us. Alec Baldwin liked it and followed. Julian Lennon liked our Instagram story of that song. We could not believe it. It meant a lot to us. Our version of “I Feel Fine” has since amassed well over 6 million views across all of our social media platforms.
Over the last eight months, our follower counts on social media exploded. From 10,000 to over 100,000 on Facebook. From 10,000 to nearly 75,000 on Instagram. Our YouTube subscribers tripled.
We made sure to post our latest original songs each week so that we could introduce our original music to our growing followers. Our latest three original songs, “Life With You (Acoustic),” “I Don’t Like You,” and “Somewhere In This Cup,” have received well over 1 million views collectively across all of our social media channels over the last eight months.
QG: Tell us about your plans in 2026. New music releases? New cowrites? Something else?
We recently released our latest three singles “Life With You (Acoustic),” “I Don’t Like You,” and “Somewhere In This Cup.” Those three songs will be on our upcoming full-length album that’s coming out this Fall 2026. We also re-recorded our favorite Uncle Lawrence original song “All I Want Is You.” This was our favorite Words song, and we’re so excited to be releasing it on our full-length album.

Our career ambitions and goals are to make timeless songs, have our songs on the radio heard by the masses, selling out arenas/stadiums, and to be on the Billboard Hot 100.
