The production will open August 25, with previews beginning August 14 for a strictly limited 20-week engagement at the August Wilson. Transferring from sold-out runs from London to Los Angeles, the stage adaptation of the 2007 screen horror favorite will be directed by Felix Barrett and has been penned by Levi Holloway. The Paranormal Activity stage play is a story distinct from the film, following couple Lou and James who move from Chicago to London to escape their past, soon discovering that places aren’t haunted—people are.
The cast will include Cher Álvarez as Lou, Travis A. Knight as James, Shannon Cochran as Carolanne, and Andrea Syglowski as Etheline Cotgrave, with understudies Caron Buinis, Caroline Hendricks, and Michael Holding rounding out the company. Álvarez, Knight, Cochran, Buinis, Hendricks and Holding are all making their Broadway debuts and reprising their roles from previous productions across North America.
Paranormal Activity will feature scenic and costume design by Fly Davis, illusion design by Chris Fisher, lighting design by Anna Watson, sound design by Gareth Fry, video and projection design by Luke Halls, and general management by Envoy Theatricals’ Samuel Dallas and Marty McGuire.
Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, the original producer of the Paranormal Activity film franchise, is on the producing team for the Broadway bow, which is also produced in association with Paramount Pictures, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and American Conservatory Theater. The staging was originally produced at Leeds Playhouse. In addition to Blum, the producing team includes Simon Friend, Hanna Osmolska, Ken Davenport, Gavin Kalin Productions, Seaview, Crooked Letter, Blumhouse, John Gore Organization, Michael Ngo/David Thomas Tao, Olympus Theatricals/FineWomen Productions, Amplify Pictures, Robina Riccitiello, and Lone Pine Theatricals. Seaview serves as executive producer.
