New York woman arrested for elder abuse and animal abuse charges in Argyle
ARGYLE, N.Y. —
A New York woman is facing charges after police said she left an elderly person without help and had 20 dogs locked in dirty cages without food.
Carol Kiaer, 72, of Argyle, was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person and twenty counts charging her with overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals.
New York State Police said they were called to a home in Argyle after receiving reports that numerous dogs were being kept in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Troopers found the 20 dogs without food and water, with some of them in cages filled with urine and feces. They said they also had inadequate ventilation.
Troopers also helped an elderly person who lived in the home who was in need of immediate assistance due to mobility issues.
The person and the animals were removed from the home, with the dogs being turned over to the Argyle Animal Control Officer for assistance.
Kiaer was processed and released on a ticket to appear in court on Sept. 15.
