A central New York man facing numerous violent criminal charges is accused of fatally shooting his parents weeks after they posted bail to secure his release from jail, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say the man then took his own life inside the family’s home, WSYR reported.

Authorities identified the deceased as 35-year-old Justin Sislo and his parents, Donna Walker-Sislo, 72, and Steve Sislo, 76. Deputies were dispatched to the family’s residence in the town of Madison on Aug. 7 after receiving a welfare complaint. Investigators said deputies detected a strong odor of gas outside the home and heard gas escaping from inside before discovering the victims.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies spotted two people who appeared to be dead through a window before entering the home, where they located a third body. All three had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, and investigators recovered a firearm at the scene. Evidence gathered during the investigation led authorities to classify the case as an apparent double homicide followed by suicide.

The deaths came less than a month after Sislo was released from custody on bail. Sheriff’s officials said his parents posted $10,000 bail after his July arrest stemming from allegations that he assaulted a woman with whom he had been involved in a romantic relationship. Investigators later filed additional charges in Madison County connected to the same alleged victim, according to Yahoo!

Court records and sheriff’s officials said Sislo was facing multiple felony and misdemeanor counts, including allegations of strangulation, assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and weapons-related offenses. Authorities said firearms had previously been seized during the investigation and noted that protective orders prohibited him from possessing guns, Fox News said.

The sheriff’s office also reported a prior domestic incident involving Sislo and his father in 2024, though no criminal charges resulted from that encounter. Sislo had been scheduled to return to court later this month before the deaths occurred.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive. The case remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
