Join the herd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16 for a fresh take on the crowning of the Dairy Queen.
The goats steal the show at Pumpkin Vine Family Farm, at 217 Hewett Road in Somerville.
Each year the farm selects its top 10 goats to be the Dairy Queens. The crowd then votes to determine the Dairy Princess from among the kids born this year.
Inspired by both Alpine and Indian traditions, there will be a full day of activities to celebrate these animals. The goats have been grazing in the hill pastures since the spring, producing milk for goat cheese, yogurt, and smoothies, and are ready for a day to shine.
A special “goature” fashion team has created glamorous outfits for the goats on their big day. The winning goats will receive hand-crafted flower crowns. Additional flower crowns and ribbon wands will be available for purchase at the farmers market.
From 11 a.m. to noon voting will be open for the Dairy Princess. The parade of bells at noon will welcome the goats as they descend from the pastures. At 12:30 p.m. the top 10 Dairy Queens will be crowned. At 1:30 p.m. the 2024 princesses will be presented to the audience.
There will be photo ops with the winners after the announcement.
The event depends on the weather, and will be rescheduled in case of rain or extreme heat. Check the website the day of the event to be sure.
