The Steinway Street Festival, hosted by the Steinway Astoria Partnership from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, brought hundreds of guests around Steinway Street from 28th Avenue to 34th Avenue, where more than 500 vendors were selling a plethora of items, including a wide array of food from various cultures.
For several blocks, guests were able to purchase a wide variety of merchandise, including Astoria-branded clothing, crystals and jewelry, home decor, trinkets and toys. Each vendor sold something unique, allowing guests to find whatever they needed.

Food was also available throughout the festival. Guests could enjoy some traditional carnival food such as deep-fried foods, Jamaican jerk chicken, Mexican street tacos and more. On that hot and sunny day, guests could also quench their thirst with an array of lemonades and freshly-squeezed juices, filled with flavors galore.

The Steinway Astoria Partnership – a business improvement district — has been in service since 1991, and, according to their About page, has “been working since that time to ensure the district’s vitality and reputation as a friendly neighborhood street with a worldly selection of merchandise.” Since then, the partnership has enhanced the retail experience, offered seasonal promotions and begun beautification efforts, such as new trees being planted, flower baskets being installed and benches being added.
