Queen legend Roger Taylor released a deeply personal new song.

The drummer, songwriter and singer dropped “I See You Now,” the second single from his upcoming solo album, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World. The track arrived on August 12 and comes with an elegant black-and-white music video.

A Love Song Written for His Wife

“I See You Now” takes a more intimate direction with Taylor revealing that the new song is specifically about his wife and their long relationship. “It’s a love song, it’s really about my wife. We’ve been together for quite some time, and I think when you really get to know someone, at first you really don’t see everything about them, but when you really get to know someone, it’s ‘oh, I see you now, that’s it.”

The song opens with the reflective line, “We’ve been together, for some time now, through all kinds of weather, but we’re still dreamin’.”

The New Music Video Keeps Things Simple

The accompanying video takes a striking minimalist approach. Filmed in black and white, the visual was created by Sarina Taylor and Simon Lupton, with one memorable splash of color coming from Taylor’s ruby-red sneakers.

The understated presentation fits the song’s reflective mood, keeping the focus firmly on Taylor and the sentiment behind the track.

‘Violence Insane In A Beautiful World’ Arrives in September

“I See You Now” is the second preview of Taylor’s seventh solo album, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World, which will be released September 18 through Columbia Records. The record follows 2021’s Outsider.

The album features 10 tracks, including “A Beautiful World,” “Violence Insane,” “What Really Matters,” “Don’t Photograph Food,” “Chump,” “Spit In His Eye” and “Jealous Guy,” Taylor’s cover of the John Lennon classic. The Ndlovu Youth Choir appears on three songs.

An Album About a Complicated World

Taylor has described an overarching theme centered on the contrast between the beauty of the world and the violence. “It’s in the title really. What a beautiful world we live in, don’t f*** it up. There seems to be all this insanity at the moment,” he explains. “The violence in the world seems to be as bad as it ever was, at any point, and certainly in my lifetime. It’s just horrific, a lot of insane violence. And we do seem to be f****** up the world, plastics in the sea, and all these awful wars everywhere, and hatred born of different religions.”

He added, “It’s a beautiful world, you know. And kindness is very important, I think, it seems to be forgotten quite a lot.”
