The 2026 Iowa State Fair Queen will be crowned Saturday (08.15) night in Des Moines.
Area county fair queens vying for the top tiara and sash include, Brenna Throndson of Chickasaw County, Madison Vance of Floyd County, Colby Wix of Butler County, Mally Linkenmeyer of Howard County and Lydia Koch of Mitchell County. Contestants also include Carli Lyon of Franklin County, Maggie Jones of Fayette County, Addison Carlson of Bremer County, Jadrienne Langreck of Winneshiek County, and Layla Scarlett of Worth County.
Judging is based on personality, attitude, leadership, citizenship, contribution to community, overall appearance, charm and poise.
The reigning Iowa State Fair Queen, who will hand over the crown Saturday is Grundy County’s Riah Schrage. who was chosen last year out of 102 contestants who advanced from local county competitions. The winner also receives a variety of scholarships.
Previous state fair queens include Mitchell County’s Mary Ann Fox in 2022, Bremer County’s Abrah Meyer in 2012, Fayette County’s Stephanie Miller in 2005, Floyd County’s Leah Rae Campbell in 1998, Mitchell County’s Lisa Ahrens in 1996, and Franklin’s County’s Cindy Ahrens in 1995.
