MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne Orlando International Airport is adding seasonal nonstop weekend flights to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport, giving travelers another option for cruise connections, business trips and visits between Florida and New York.
The Delta flights are scheduled to begin Dec. 19, and run on Saturdays and Sundays during the seasonal period. The final scheduled flight is May 02, 2027.
“It’s our number two most popular unserved market here at Melbourne, so it’s a pretty exciting time for us,” said Mark Busalacchi, director of business development at Melbourne Orlando International Airport.
Airport leaders said the weekend routes are timed to match Port Canaveral’s cruise schedule, offering travelers a way to fly into Brevard County and sail out.
Officials also said Brevard County is the second-most popular place in Florida for New Yorkers to have second homes.
Marion Goodrich, who splits her time between Brevard County and Upstate New York, said the new nonstop service will make travel easier.
“We are looking forward to it; it will be great and a good asset,” Goodrich said.
During the six-month seasonal period, Delta will operate 40 round trips and add 6,000 seats.
“If the route does well, we anticipate Delta will add daily service,” Busalacchi said.
Airport officials said Melbourne Orlando International Airport has a $3 billion annual economic impact, with 20,000 employees working daily on the 2,500-acre property. The airport property includes 60 aviation, aerospace, defense, manufacturing and technology companies.
