STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Got a pothole on your block? A broken street sign? Another city problem testing your patience?
Some New Yorkers are skipping the suggestion box and heading straight to TikTok.
Residents have been posting videos about everyday frustrations, tagging Mayor Zohran Mamdani and asking him to help. From damaged streets to missing drinking fountains, the complaints are getting noticed and, in some cases, followed by a response from City Hall.
The trend has turned the mayor’s TikTok account into something resembling a digital help desk, where residents highlight a problem and wait to see whether Mamdani will answer with a solution.
In one widely shared video, a New Yorker pointed out two potholes before heading to work and asked Mamdani to take care of them. By the time the resident returned, the potholes had been filled.
The quick turnaround inspired a follow-up video and surprised reactions from users impressed by the rapid response. It also encouraged more residents to tag Mamdani in posts about their own neighborhood concerns, hoping a little online attention might help get the job done.
Another resident turned to TikTok to ask for the return of drinking fountains at Prospect Park. Mamdani soon responded with a video showing plumbers installing the fountains, captioned: “We got you. Stay hydrated, New York.”

Not every request involved potholes or public amenities. Some took a more personal turn.
One TikTok user joked that he should be on a date at the Brooklyn Museum, but the man he envisioned going with “doesn’t exist.”
Mamdani’s account responded with a photo carousel highlighting upcoming events around the city, offering New Yorkers several real places to go out and potentially meet someone.
The playful exchange showed that the mayor’s TikTok responses are not limited to traditional service complaints. City Hall is also using the trend to connect residents with events and activities happening in their own backyards.
Mamdani’s reputation for answering TikTok requests has now spread well beyond the five boroughs. Social media users from other cities, states and even countries have begun jokingly asking the New York City mayor to solve problems in their communities.
In one viral video, a London resident called on Mamdani to bring air conditioning to the city’s Underground, adding “London btw” to make it clear that the request fell far outside the mayor’s jurisdiction.
Although Mamdani has no authority over London’s transit system, the video shows how quickly his “Mamdani, fix this” reputation has traveled.
For some users, tagging the mayor has become less of a formal request and more of a humorous way to ask: Can we borrow New York’s mayor?
