The Albany County Sheriff’s Office said K9 Casey was found dead after the missing police dog was struck by a vehicle on the New York State Thruway.
The sheriff’s office said Casey was found in the median of the New York State Thruway after going missing Saturday, Aug. 15, from her home near Willis Street and Main Street in the Village of Ravena. The office said Casey was an 80-pound bloodhound.
“We are devastated by this loss and incredibly grateful to everyone who helped search, shared information, and kept an eye out for Casey, Sheriff Craig Apple said.
“Please keep Casey’s handler, family, and all those who knew and loved this special K9 in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time, Apple added.
The sheriff’s office said it appears Casey was struck by a vehicle and left at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call the Albany County Sheriff’s Office at 518-765-2352.
“Rest easy, K9 Casey. You will be deeply missed,” Apple posted on Facebook.
