SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Great New York State Fair is gearing up for one of its most popular attractions.
800 pounds of butter has been delivered to the Fair for its annual butter sculpture.
Construction is now underway for the 58th annual Butter Sculpture, which will be unveiled Aug. 25. That’s a day before the Fair officially opens.
The American Dairy Association North East shared some butter trivia, like how the 800 pounds of butter could cover 76,800 pancakes.
And that it takes 1,972 gallons of milk to make that much butter.
After the Fair, according to the dairy association, the butter sculpture will be taken apart and sent to Noblehurst Farms in Livingston County. There, it will be recycled in a methane digester that turns manure and food waste into energy, enough to power a home for three days.
The Great New York State Fair is scheduled for Aug. 26 through Sept. 7.
