Romulus, N.Y. — A new push was made Monday to improve safety and accessibility at New York’s first state veterans cemetery in Seneca County.
Senator Chuck Schumer was in Romulus Monday calling for $5 million in federal funding for the Hallowed Ground.
He says the money would help upgrade the gateway and entrance, expand capacity, and preserve the dignity of the cemetery’s sacred grounds.

“We’re not forgetting; we will remain vigilant, and I’m sure the next generation will remain vigilant to keep this cemetery up and keep improving it,” said Schumer. “It is saying to our veterans, we will never forget you.”
The money would also add 300 new burial plots, fencing and lighting, stormwater infrastructure, and help maintain and care for veteran headstones.
