When it came to naming their daughter, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided that a middle name wasn’t enough to honour Queen Elizabeth II. Instead their daughter, born on 4 June 2021, shortly after the death of Prince Philip, takes her name from Elizabeth’s nickname, Lilibet. The moniker was used by the late Queen’s parents. Prince Philip also reportedly used the nickname. Lilibet, who became a Princess on the ascension of her grandfather King Charles III, was given the middle name Diana after her paternal grandmother.

Princess Eugenie has become the latest member of the royal family to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, choosing the moniker as a middle name for her daughter, Adelaide Brooksbank.
‘We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank,’ she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the news. ‘Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.’
