Police are looking for the driver of a BMW who fled the scene after fatally striking a cyclist and hitting several other cars in a chaotic crash in the Bronx Tuesday night.
NYPD officials said the sporty black BMW M550i was heading north on Bruckner Boulevard — the road that runs below the Bruckner Expressway — in Hunts Point around 9:30 p.m. when the car hit 51-year-old Angelo Camera while he was crossing Bruckner Boulevard on an e-bike in the crosswalk at Longwood Avenue.
The BMW continued on, plowing into a Hyundai Sonata that was heading east on Longwood Avenue with a 38-year-old woman behind the wheel, police said. The Hyundai struck a parked and unoccupied Volkswagen, while the BMW also hit two additional unoccupied parked cars.
After that, the BMW driver jumped out of the car and ran away, leaving the vehicle at the scene, according to the NYPD.
EMS workers took both Camera and the 38-year-old Hyundai driver to Lincoln Hospital, where Camera was pronounced dead and the Hyundai driver was listed in stable condition, police said.
Camera lived about a mile from where he was struck, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD made no immediate arrests as they continued to search for the BMW driver.
