Ahead of the August 21 digital release for the Off-Broadway cast album of The Lazours‘ Night Side Songs, get a first listen to Brooke Ishibashi singing “Will You Let Me Know?” above. The release captures Lincoln Center Theater‘s Off-Broadway production that performed earlier this year with a cast also including Robin de Jesús, Jonathan Raviv, Kris Saint-Louis, and Mary Testa. Directed by Taibi Magar (We Live in Cairo), the work is inspired by an insight from writer Susan Sontag that “illness is the night side of life.” In the show, Ishibashi plays a woman diagnosed with cancer and her interactions with loved ones and medical professionals.
The score was developed with Madeline Benson. The album is produced by Mara Isaacs, Todd Sickafoose, and Andy Einhorn, and co-produced by Daniel Lazour and Patrick Lazour. Music direction is by Alex Bechtel.
The production stars de Jesús (The Boys in the Band, In The Heights) as Dr. Henry Verlaine/Lillian Jones/Uncle Jere, Ishibashi (Into the Woods) as Yasmine, Raviv (The Band’s Visit) as Frank, Testa (Oklahoma!, 42nd Street) as Desirée/Prudence of Dursley, and Saint-Louis (Mexodus) as Pilgrim/Nurse/Harris Reading. Casting was by The Telsey Office‘s Taylor Williams.
Night Side Songs originated in a world premiere co-production between American Repertory Theater at Harvard University and Philadelphia Theatre Company, following a commission by American Repertory Theater. The show was further developed and presented by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in the Under the Radar Festival.
