NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Status check on one of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s biggest campaign promises, free buses: work in progress.
New York City Deputy Mayor of Operations Julia Kerson joins PIX11 to discuss her office’s progress on fast and free buses.
When it comes to the “fast” part, Kerson is leading the way with the “Next Stop” program, which is reforming routes to increase speeds by an average of six minutes. When it comes to the “free” promise, that is still a work in progress with the MTA and Albany.
The deputy mayor also addressed the city’s 911 glitch Tuesday morning that prevented nearly 2,000 calls from getting through to dispatchers. Kerson said that, so far, there are no indications that those who needed help were unable to get it.
