NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Police are searching for the gunman who fatally shot a 27-year-old man after what police describe as a possible road-rage dispute in East New York.
Witnesses told PIX11 the confrontation began near the intersection of Stanley Avenue and Crescent street. Detectives are now working to determine how the dispute escalated into a deadly shooting.
Nearby surveillance video captured a burst of gunfire Friday night.
Police said officers responded to Crescent Street just before 10 p.m. and found the victim with gunshot wounds to his chest and torso.
He was taken to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died, according to police.
Sources told PIX11 the victim had been riding a moped when he got into an altercation with another driver. That driver allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several times.
“It was a road rage incident, that’s sad, it’s sad,” one resident said.

Citywide, shootings are at record lows this year, according to the NYPD. But neighbors on Crescent Street said the sound of gunfire remains all too familiar.
“Everyone should put the guns down, it’s very unfortunate that we’re losing people to gun violence,” one neighbor said.
Pedro Hernandez, who lives in the area, said he was not surprised to hear about another shooting.
“You hear that all the time there’s shootings around, so I’m not really surprised,” Hernandez said.
Residents said the shooting was especially painful because of how quickly a dispute on the road allegedly turned fatal.
“He didn’t even get to live; he didn’t get to see nothing. He probably just knows the neighborhood,” another resident said.
People who live near Stanley and Crescent avenues said the residential intersection has long been a concern for crashes.
“It’s normally just the stop signs, they put the light up over there. Thank God because there were so many accidents,” a resident said.
The shooting comes less than a month after another apparent road-rage confrontation turned deadly on the Belt Parkway in Queens. Police said 47-year-old Crisanie Dockery, a father of two, was beaten after a fender-bender and later died.
No arrests have been made in Friday night’s shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
“Everything doesn’t have to escalate violence, we can talk it out,” a resident said.
