Re “Thank you, Mayor Mamdani” (Aug. 7): When I read the editorial it really riled me up. The complaint that 17,000 people would have to spend their time proving that they live in their multimillion-dollar pieds-à-terre in New York City for at least six months a year was such an imposition on these long-suffering wealthy people.
Might want to check on the monthly requirements for many thousands of people to prove you are poor enough or sick enough or disabled enough to qualify for continuing support or subsidies from government programs like Medicare, WIC and SNAP.
While I don’t support 100% of the programs that Mamdani is rolling out, I love the fact that his focus is on working families. Those with empty pieds-à-terre in New York City will be just fine.
