Queens detectives are on the hunt for the suspect who stabbed and killed a man just steps away from his home — where his mother found him in a pool of his own blood — on Sunday night.
Police said the stabbing occurred in front of an auto repair shop at 220-20 Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton at about 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 23.
Officers from the 116th Precinct rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call about an assault in progress. When they arrived, they found 33-year-old Jose Scott, who lived on Merrick Boulevard three doors down from the auto repair shop, with multiple stab wounds about his body.
Sources familiar with the investigation said that Scott suffered two stab wounds to his back, as well as a stab wound to his abdomen, and multiple other lacerations. The victim’s mother found him lying on the sidewalk in front of their home and covered in blood, then called police for help.

EMS rushed Scott to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The motive and circumstances leading up to the deadly attack remained unknown as of Monday morning, police sources said.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation. Police sources did not have an available description of potential suspects.

The 116th Precinct has reported three homicides year-to-date through Aug. 16. Felony assaults are down 8.1% in 2026, from 173 incidents last year to 159 this year.
