Cops in the Bronx are looking for the masked man behind a recent shooting that left a man seriously wounded.
The NYPD released on Monday morning images and video of the suspect and his getaway car tied to the shooting that occurred at 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 16 in front of a store at 1997 Jerome Ave. in Mount Hope.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police learned that the perpetrator confronted the victim, a 49-year-old man who was walking through the area. The gunman pulled out a firearm and opened fire, striking the victim in the buttocks.
Following the attack, authorities said, the suspect hopped into a white sedan with New Jersey license plates and an unknown operator who fled westbound on nearby West Tremont Avenue.
The incident was reported to the 46th Precinct. EMS rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
The 46th Precinct has been beleaguered by gun violence during a year that the NYPD has reported record-low shootings citywide. Through Aug. 16, the 46th Precinct had 21 shootings year-to-date, a 23.5% increase from the 17 at the same point last year, resulting in 22 injuries.
Police said the shooter responsible in this case is believed to be a man who was last seen wearing a black balaclava over his face, along with a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and black sneakers. While the make and model of the sedan was not known, the NYPD reported that the car had the New Jersey license number J61RNZ.
