The Cherry Lane Theatre has unveiled its fall programming.
The Off-Broadway program will stage two productions, School Pictures and Two Girls, at the same time. School Pictures will be presented nightly at 7 PM, with Two Girls to follow at 9:30 PM. Tickets will be sold separately, and the shows are not intended as a double feature. Previews for both begin October 7 ahead of opening night October 18.
School Pictures is described as follows: “Faith hates reading, Jane has lost her flashcards and Javier sees no point in studying because of climate change.” Returning to New York after a sold-out run at Playwrights Horizons, the musical journal documents parenting, inequality and the “cruelty of puberty in the NYC school system.” School Pictures is written and performed by Milo Cramer (Cute Activist, Minor Character) and directed by Morgan Green.
The world premiere of Two Girls revisits one of the 2000’s most viral shock-porn videos, Two Girls, One Cup, using verbatim dialogue to construct a strange, irreverent examination of sex, disgust, and the body. This two-hander explores what we look at as we develop our sexualities and why we can’t look away. The show is written by Eliya Smith (Dad Don’t Read This, Grief Camp), developed with experimental theatre ensemble The Goat Exchange (Time Passes, Deadclass Ohio) and Cherry Lane Theatre, directed by Chloe Claudel and Mitchell Polonsky, and stars Claudel and Juliana Sass.
