Second Amtrak train between Pittsburgh, NYC to begin service mid-November
PITTSBURGH —
The second daily Amtrak train providing service between New York City and Pittsburgh will begin operating this fall, PennDOT officials and Gov. Shapiro announced Monday.
According to a release, the Shapiro Administration invested more than $80 million into the rail expansion, with construction already underway and mostly completed.
The second Pennsylvanian train will begin operating in mid-November. The exact schedule for when the train will leave Pittsburgh has not been announced in the release.
Officials said the service expansion will give more Pennsylvanians access to “modern, safe, reliable passenger rail service that gets them where they need to go.” They also said the expansion will help to connect “Pennsylvania communities and bring jobs, economic development, and infrastructure investment along with it.”
Amtrak anticipates beginning ticket sales for the additional Pennsylvanian train in October, ahead of the start of service.
“The second daily Pennsylvanian train will give customers more travel options and convenience between Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York, and communities along the route,” Amtrak Board Member Robert Gleason said in the release Monday. “This expansion highlights the strong partnership between Amtrak, PennDOT, and Norfolk Southern and our shared commitment to improving mobility and connectivity across Pennsylvania. We look forward to continuing our work with President Trump to strengthen America’s passenger rail network.”
