Carmen De La Rosa has won reelection to City Council’s District 10, which encompasses Northern Manhattan neighborhoods including Inwood and Washington Heights.

De La Rosa pulled in 87 percent of the vote against her Republican opponent, Louisa Flores, who got 10.4 percent of the vote. A Unity Party candidate, Francesca Castellanos, got 2.6 percent of the vote.

The progressive De La Rosa, who immigrated to NYC from the Dominican Republic when she was young and grew up in Inwood, is part of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

According to City & State, she initially sought to mount a bid to become City Council Speaker—a race that is heating up—before endorsing Crystal Hudson, a progressive Brooklyn City Council Member, instead. She would have served as the left-wing foil to Upper East Side Council Member Julie Menin, who is seen as the front-runner of the Democratic Party’s moderate wing’s bid for the role.
