The city and the United States Tennis Association will offer 1,000 tickets at a discount for the US Open, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday.
Mamdani says tennis fans can purchase up to two tickets, costing $100 each, starting Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. and will need to provide their zip code.
According to a press release, the tickets will be given out on a first come first serve basis, and include seats in Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as grounds passes, for Main Draw matches taking place between Aug. 30 through Sept. 8.
The announcement was made at an unrelated press conference following concerns about rising costs to attend the matches.
“Part of the beauty of living in our city is also the exposure to some of the greatest sporting events across the world, and the US Open is one that so many New Yorkers have fond memories of,” the mayor said. “And yet what we’ve seen is like with many sporting events, the cost has continued to increase, and many New Yorkers feel as if they don’t have a chance to be a part of something like this.”
“Our mission is how can we bring as many New Yorkers as possible to be a part of such a wonderful event,” Mamdani said.
“We want as many people as possible to experience tennis and the US Open, and this additional Main Draw ticket access for New Yorkers only strengthens that commitment,” USTA Craig Tiley wrote in a statement.
The city had a similar ticket offer for the World Cup.
