MANHATTAN (KSNT) – The City of Manhattan is inviting the community to attend the opening of brand-new tennis courts this weekend.

The opening will be at 9:00 a.m. on Aug. 29, at CiCo Park located at 3221 Kimball Ave. in Manhattan, according to the City of Manhattan Parks and Recreation. The city is planning to have opening remarks and officially open up the courts to the public.

“We’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with this project,” said Manhattan Parks and Rec Director Aaron Stewart in a press release. “We replaced three outdated tennis courts with a modern facility featuring eight new courts. We also built a central pavilion and bleachers for spectators, which will greatly improve the viewing experience.”

City officials said the courts will be home to the USD 383 Manhattan High School tennis teams and open to the public daily. The City of Manhattan funded the project through a 0.25% quality of life sales tax, a partnership with Manhattan-Ogden USD 383, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and USTA Missouri Valley.

“The Quality of Life sales tax, partnerships, and grant funding awards were significant factors in making this project affordable to the Manhattan community,” Stewart said. “We recognize the importance of providing quality facilities and programs while prioritizing fiscal responsibility; it’s what this community deserves.”
