STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There was one reported motorcycle theft during the week of Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, according to NYPD data.

Despite the incident, the overall number of automobile thefts reported in the borough this year has gone down. Car thefts reported through Nov. 2 dropped 32% (200 vs. 292) when compared to the same period in 2024, according to the NYPD’s latest CompStat figures. According to the database, 2021 was the last time car thefts on the borough were this low.

The database indicates that the motorcycle was reported stolen at the intersection of Occident and Marion avenues in Stapleton on Oct. 30 at 11 a.m.

Starting at the end of summer 2023, the NYPD enacted a tactical shift aimed at curbing vehicle thefts. In developing an intricate, multi-agency system to gather and analyze intelligence, law enforcement officials were able to drive down the number of grand larceny auto cases, which were surging at the time.
