GEDDES, N.Y. — Wednesday was the first day of the Great New York State Fair. While most were focused on rides, food or other attractions, I was more focused on finding the best bathroom.

With thousands of people in attendance of the Fair, the dozens of available bathrooms came in clutch.

Michelle Ludwig and Romana Tweed, attendees, said “At our age, when you have to go, you have to go.”

Most people who attended the fair on Wednesday described many of the bathrooms as clean. Some of them, upon CNY Central’s inspection, also had bathroom attendees to clean up the stalls and hand you towels to dry your hands.

Here are my picks for the best and least favorable bathrooms at the Fairgrounds:

The restroom in Suburban Park: my top choice. The only con is that it’s a bit of a far walk if you’re at the center of the grounds. The Center of Progress is a smaller facility, but it was clean and didn’t have any lines. The Exposition Center bathroom is next on my list. However, if you have an emergency, I’d probably avoid this one because of the lines. The Eatery and the Horticulture building facilities are clean for the most part. Both of these have bathroom attendants, but with a lack of air conditioner, it can be an uncomfortable visit.

As for my most dreaded choice: a porta potty. This restroom is at the absolute bottom of my list, but that goes for any venue. With that being said though, many users had a fair experience.

Lucas Fudo said, “Some people throw things in there here and there, but I didn’t complain.”

Fudo went on to say that as the Fair goes on, conditions can tend to get worse.
