Joel Kabezian, 30, of Jersey City, was accused of shoplifting at the Target at 543 River Rd. in Edgewater on Saturday, Aug. 22, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Edgewater Police Chief Donald Martin said.
A Target loss prevention employee confronted Kabezian while he was actively shoplifting, sparking a physical altercation, police said. Kabezian fled before officers arrived but was later identified during the investigation.
Kabezian was charged on a complaint warrant with shoplifting, robbery, and two counts of aggravated assault, authorities said.
A municipal court judge found probable cause for the charges, and Kabezian was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance, police said.
