The New York State Police Troop C was busy this week. Here are a couple of things that troopers were conducting.
Safety Checkpoint Initiative
On August 24th, the Traffic Incident Management Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, and members from Zone 2 conducted a safety restraint checkpoint.
The checkpoint was conducted on Interstate 81 southbound at the Exit 16 on-ramp in the town of Chenango, where troopers issued 62 citations as follows:
26 – Seat belt violations6 – Child or youth safety restraint violations23 – Texting7 – Other citations
Troop C of the New York State Police is reminding you to wear your seat belt. It’s the most effective way to protect yourself and passengers in the event of a crash…and it’s the law. In addition, be sure to properly secure all children in the appropriate car seat or booster seat and put away any distractions.

Underage Drinking Detail
On August 25th, Troop C New York State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in the counties of Broome and Delaware.
Out of 21 businesses troopers visited, one arrest was made. In that case, alcohol was sold to an underage operative at a business on West Main Street, Endicott. An employee of that business was issued an appearance ticket for the ABC Law violation, Prohibited Sale of Alcohol to a Person Less than 21.
New York State Police visited businesses in Binghamton, Hancock, Vestal, Deposit, Windsor, Chenango Bridge, Endwell, and Endicott.
Troop C of the New York State Police notes that this initiative is designed to ensure that businesses properly verify identification and do not sell alcohol to individuals under the legal drinking age.
Businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth (if asked).
