Osama Khateeb called in from Jordan to speak at the sentencing of Hussein Adam, who was convicted in the 2023 killing of Bassam Khateeb. He told the courtroom that Adam could have taken the money during the robbery and run, but instead his brother died alone. Judge Mario F. Mattei called the case sad and tragic before sentencing Adam in state Supreme Court in St. George. Adam received 22 years to life for second-degree murder, plus concurrent sentences for weapon possession and attempted robbery. Prosecutors had asked for the maximum sentence of 25 years to life, while the defense sought 15 years to life. Bassam Khateeb was shot and killed on July 8, 2023, during a botched robbery inside Manor Deli & Convenience in Castleton Corners.
