State-owned pickup stolen near Albany Capitol, later recovered in Vermont

State Police are investigating the theft of a state owned pickup truck that was taken from outside the New York Capitol and later recovered in Vermont.

On Aug. 26, 2026, at about 4:42 p.m., troopers received a report that a pickup truck owned by the New York State Office of General Services had been stolen from West Capital Park outside the Capitol building.

With assistance from the Vermont State Police, the vehicle was recovered in the town of Pownal, Vermont, at approximately 11:45 p.m. that evening.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. CBS6 has reached out to the Office of General Services for comment.
