Champion Martial Arts hosted backpack giveaways on Saturday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 22, providing over 100 backpacks to the community at their two Flushing locations: Union Street Champions Martial Arts at 28-22 Union St. and Flushing Champions Martial Arts at 141-20 Northern Blvd.
“The purpose of our backpack giveaway is simple: we want to help local families get ready for the new school year while giving back to the community that has supported us,” said Master George Chen, master at Flushing Champion Martial Arts. “Back-to-school season can come with a lot of expenses, so we wanted to take one small burden off families’ shoulders by providing students with a backpack at no cost.”
Chen hopes that this event could have a direct impact on local families, alleviating the stress of back-to-school shopping. Chen highlights the importance of not only teaching students how to kick and punch in martial arts, but also to learn discipline, respect, confidence and a strong sense of community.

“Flushing is a very diverse and hardworking community, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” Chen said. “Even a small gesture can make a difference, and we hope this inspires other local businesses and organizations to find their own ways to give back.”
In addition to the backpack giveaways, an open house was also organized, giving guests the chance to learn about what Champion Martial Arts offers. Children and families could play in the bounce house and enjoy activities provided by Champion Martial Arts.

“At the end of the day, our goal is to be more than just a martial arts school,” Chen said. “We want Flushing Champions Martial Arts to be a positive part of the Flushing community and a place where families feel welcomed and supported.”
